Discover Your Beachfront Paradise
Mr. Kahawa enjoys a prime beachfront location on Paje Beach, one of Zanzibar’s most stunning stretches of white sand and turquoise water. Step directly from your air-conditioned room onto the beach and into the heart of one of the world’s best kitesurfing destinations. Located on Zanzibar’s southeast coast, we’re perfectly positioned between adventure and tranquility – just an hour from the airport and Stone Town, yet worlds away from the everyday.
Mr. Kahawa is a boutique hotel and café-restaurant located directly on Paje Beach, on the southeast coast of Zanzibar. We're situated right on one of the island's most beautiful white sand beaches - you can literally step from your room onto the sand. Mr. Kahawa is a beachfront property - we're not just near the beach, we're ON it! Step directly from our property onto the pristine white sand and into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. You can literally enjoy your morning coffee with your toes in the sand or watch the sunrise from our top rooms. Our prime beachfront location puts you in the heart of Paje's vibrant scene while offering direct, uninterrupted access to one of Zanzibar's most spectacular beaches.
Paje Beach experiences significant tidal changes, which is part of what makes it perfect for kitesurfing. During low tide, the water recedes quite far, typically 200-300 meters, creating shallow lagoons ideal for walking and water sports. Swimming is best during high tide when the water is deeper and right at your doorstep. However, the low tide reveals fascinating tidal pools and makes Paje one of the world's best kitesurfing spots with its flat, shallow water. We're happy to provide you with tide tables so you can plan your beach activities accordingly. From Mr. Kahawa's beachfront position, you can watch the tide changes and always have the best access to the water.
Mr. Kahawa is approximately 55 kilometers (34 miles) from Stone Town, Zanzibar's historic capital. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours by car, depending on traffic and road conditions. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth a day trip to explore its winding streets, historic architecture, spice markets, and cultural landmarks.
Plan Your Perfect Zanzibar Escape
Timing is everything when it comes to tropical paradise. Understanding Zanzibar’s seasons helps you make the most of your visit, whether you’re chasing consistent winds for kitesurfing, seeking perfect beach weather, or hoping to avoid the crowds. From trade winds to tidal patterns, here’s everything you need to know about when to visit and what weather to expect year-round on our beautiful island.
The best time to visit Zanzibar is during the dry season, which runs from June to October and December to February. During these months, you can expect sunny weather, low humidity, and perfect conditions for beach activities, kitesurfing, diving, and exploring the island.
Kitesurfing season: June to March is ideal, with the strongest and most consistent winds from June to September and December to February.
Rainy seasons: March to May brings the long rains (heaviest in April), while November sees short, occasional showers. Some travelers enjoy visiting during the "green season" for lower prices and fewer crowds, though rain can affect activities.
Weather highlights:
••March-May: Rainy season, some hotels close, but a great oppertunity aswell.
Zanzibar enjoys a tropical climate year-round with warm temperatures and beautiful sunny days. Here's what to expect:
